Veteran lawyer and former Union law minister Ram Jethmalani passed away Sunday morning at his residence in New Delhi at the age of 95.

He had mastery in the criminal law and was known as one of the highest-paid lawyers in India. He fought several high profile cases. He appeared in the defence of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins, Jayalalitha’s defence in disproportionate assets case, Amit Shah’s defence in Sohrabuddin encounter case, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s defence in fodder scam case.

He claimed to have spoken to 1993 Mumbai blast mastermind Dawood Ibrahim regarding his surrender.

He also represented Harshad Mehta and Ketan Parekh in their respective stock market scams.

He was the lawyer of LK Advani in the hawala case, Kanimozhi’s defence in 2G scam trial, defence of Afzal Guru in parliament attack case. Manu Sharma’s defence in Jessica Lall case, Yeddyyurappa’s defence in mining scam case, Subrato Roy’s defence in Sahara-SEBI case, Baba Ramdev’s defence in 2011 Ramlila ground incident case, and Asaram Bapu’s defence in sexual assault case.

He was famous for his one-liners and kept judges spellbound by his arguments

He was a Union Law Minister in the Vajpayee cabinet and has also served as the chairman of the Bar Council of India.

Born on September 14, 1923, in Sindh, present-day Pakistan, Jethmalani obtained his law degree at the age of 17.

He first shot to limelight with his appearance in the sensational 1959 Nanavati case

In 2017, he announced retirement from the legal profession.

  1. please correct me if i m wrong but out of all those cases (those mentioned in video) he fought , MOST of those clients are in jail !! he also took case of afzal guru who's a terrorist! why is he so loved then?
